DJ Business Cards

What’s the difference between a DJ and an ISA?  One of them eventually matures and earns money!

OK – it’s a bad gag, but therein lies a kernel of truth (are you impressed with the philosophical turn of phrase?).  Also the DJs I know will laugh because they know it’s true.  DJs become DJs precisely because it’s not really a grown up job.  You spend your time being the life and soul of the party and playing music, often getting your drinks for free, marvellous really.

The thing is, or the” kernel” to carry on the metaphor, is that it can be hard to make enough money to make it worthwhile.  At some point the fun has to be put aside and the business side developed or the party will come to a sad, and often abrupt end as bills have to be paid.

One of the simplest things a DJ can do to help this along is make the most of the party happy people who come along during a gig and ask how they can book the “rocking DJ” for their own party.  If he just hands over a scrap of paper with a phone number on, chances are that’s the last will be heard of that particular booking.  You can imagine the scene the following morning when the said party goer, probably hung over, finds a crumpled scrap of paper in their trouser pocket with a phone number on.  They’ll probably think it’s the number of some hideous creature they were snogging in the alleyway on the way home and throw it in the bin before they catch something unpleasant from it.

On the other hand, if they pull out a top quality business card with a classy design and clear contact details, they’re much more likely to remember the great guy at the centre of a good night out and put the card on the side, ready to call to arrange the next best gig in town.

So all you DJs out there, if you want to keep the party going, get yourselves some really good DJ business cards
